Andy Sherwood has a wide range of experience as a performer, especially during his 24 years in the U.S. Coast Guard Band. He performed as clarinetist and saxophonist in multiple ensembles including the concert band, Dixieland jazz band, saxophone quartet, swing band and big band. He performed as Benny Goodman soloist on tours across the United States, Russia and England. He led the Coast Guard Dixieland band for 15 years, which included performances at the Kennedy Center Millennium Stage and traditional jazz festivals in Sacramento, Sun Valley and Connecticut. He performed on tenor saxophone with the Coast Guard Saxophone Quartet, which included an appearance on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno. He has studied improvisation with renowned jazz clarinetist Eddie Daniels and saxophonist Walt Weiskopf. He has released three recordings with his Dixieland Jazz Quartet: “While We Danced at the Mardi Gras,” “Dixieland Clarinet Live” and “Dixieland Downtown.” He holds a Bachelor of Music from the Ohio State University and a Master of Music from the University of Connecticut.
